Scholars Program

Bishop Ireton is proud to offer its Distinguished Scholars Program. Individuals who meet program qualifications and choose to complete all requirements will be commended as a Bishop Ireton Distinguished Scholar on their transcript and receive special recognition during graduation ceremonies at the end of their senior year.

This rigorous program is designed to provide high-achieving students with the opportunity to pursue and showcase advance studies and research in an area of choice; to be mentored by an expert in the field on a specific topic as part of a capstone project; and to present project findings or solutions related to issues with far-reaching effects or global impact, or that improve the human condition.

The Bishop Ireton Distinguished Scholars Program is designed to prepare students for recognized achievement in higher education. The critical thinking skills, research skills and aptitude gained in a specific concentration will develop leadership and communication expertise that will provide the foundation for educational and professional success throughout a lifetime.

Program Requirements
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 throughout the freshman year. Once accepted into the program, the student must continue to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher throughout high school.

Selection of an area of concentration:
- Fine Arts
- Humanities
- STEM
Selection of three electives in the area of concentration during your time in the program. At least one of those electives must be an AP-level course or a Dual Enrollment course. Participants will graduate with a minimum of 29 credits.

Fulfillment of research and experimental learning in an area of concentration:
- Identify an issue or problem to be researched and offer ways to mitigate, improve and/or resolve the issue through a capstone research paper. This must be completed by the end of sophomore year.
- Complete an internship or devise a project pertaining to the area of concentration. This will be completed during junior year or during the summer between junior and senior year.
Presentation of findings to a professional panel and student peers during senior year.
